Takamoto Katsuta off in snowbank during 2024 Rally Sweden
17th February 2024 0 By Kamron KentTakamoto Katsuta crashed on stage 10 for the 2024 Rally Sweden, after hitting a snowbank, and are out of Rally Sweden for today.
On Saturday morning, Katsuta‘s chance for glory ended abruptly in Sweden as the Japanese driver wedged himself into the snowbank.
Pressing for the rally lead in SS10, Katsuta raced along a fast right-hander and his Yaris brushed up against a snowbank, 3.4km into the stage, which collected his car and wedged it into the side of the course.
Katsuta and his co-driver, Aaron Johnson, were okay from the incident and worked hard to remove the car from the bank with the aid of some nearby marshals.

Lappi soon passed through as the small team continued to extract the Yaris from the snow. Speaking at the end of the stage, Lappi said:
“I’m really sorry for Taka [Katsuta], he had great speed here last year – and this year maybe even better.
“A big shame but these things can happen. The banks can be your friend, until you use them too much. It’s going to be a long two days.”
The Japanese driver ventured through the 10th stage of the weekend, Sarsjӧliden 1, just behind the rally leader Esapekka Lappi of Hyundai on the overall timesheet. Only nine-tenths of a second separated the two after SS9.
At the end of the 10th stage, Katsuta and Johnson’s Yaris remained stuck in the snowbank. Both driver and co-driver have been forced to retire for the day.
