Haas appoint Oliver Bearman and Pietro Fittipaldi as 2024 reserve drivers
1st February 2024Haas F1 has appointed Formula 2 contender, Oliver Bearman, and Pietro Fittipaldi as the teams reserve drivers for the upcoming 2024 Formula One season.
Bearman, who will compete in his sophomore F2 season with Prema, will take up the shared mantle of reserve driver for the American team, strengthening their partnership with Ferrari.
The British driver, who is part of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, made his F1 Free Practice Debut when he took the reigns of Haas’ 2023 championship contender, VF-23, in Mexico and Abu Dhabi. Bearman also took part in the post-season test, at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Despite his ongoing commitments, with Prema Racing in F2, the young Briton will be the teams and Ferrari’s reserve driver for 2024.
On the appointment, Bearman said:
“I’m really happy to be part of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team for the upcoming season. I had a great experience last year working with everyone at the team and I’m looking forward to building on that this year.
“There are several events I’ll be doing FP1’s at – alongside the reserve duties, which is exciting. I’m grateful to Haas F1 Team and Scuderia Ferrari for their faith and for supporting me.”
Haas have also confirmed that Bearman will participate in six FP1 sessions across the season for the 2024 campaign. These sessions will be undertaken at the; Emilia-Romagna, Spanish, British, Hungarian, Mexican and Abu Dhabi races.
Alongside Bearman, Pietro Fittipaldi will continue on with his reserve role with the team. The Brazilian, grandson to two-time world champion Emmerson Fittipaldi, will embark on his sixth season with the team.
Despite being a reserve driver and a two-time race starter for the team, in 2020 after Romain Grosjean’s horrific crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix that year, Fittipaldi will also compete for Rahal Letterman Lanigan for the 2024 IndyCar season.
“I’m happy and proud to be going into my sixth season with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team,” Pietro Fittipaldi said in the announcement.
“I’m looking forward to continuing our work in development and supporting the team in the best way I can throughout the 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.”
