NEOM McLaren have announced they have signed Taylor Barnard as their Reserve and Development driver for their 2023/2024 Formula E season.

Barnard, who has had experience driving for the team at the Valencia pre-season test as a rookie, was announced as McLaren’s Reserve and Development driver for the sports 10th season.

In the role, Barnard will work directly with the team in both Bicester and Woking, to play a crucial role to help the team develop whilst increasing his own knowledge and experience in the sport.

From Norwich, England, Barnard has experience in single-seaters and will now add Formula E to his belt of motorsport disciplines having tested the team’s car at Valencia, where he completed 35 laps.

In the announcement, Barnard said:

“I’m super excited and honoured to be joining the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team as a Reserve and Development Driver.

“Having an opportunity to work with a team such as NEOM McLaren is a great opportunity for my future and I will be working as hard as I can to support the team and working hard to learn as much as possible!”

The youngster entered single-seater racing in 2020 and has built up some accolades on his journey up the feeder series. He became a runner-up in both the 2022 ADAC Formula 4 and Formula Regional Middle East Championship.

In addition, Barnard made his debut in Formula 3 last year and managed to obtain his first race win in the Belgian Grand Prix feature race, at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps.

Managing Director and Team Principal for NEOM McLaren Formula E, Ian James said:

“I am delighted to officially welcome Taylor to the team, after giving him his first taste of electric racing in Valencia last October.

“He is an incredibly impressive up-and-coming talent in single seater motorsport, and I’m looking forward to working with him in 2024.

“Taylor will play an important role within our team, and I am confident he will be adding value to the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team with his drive and talent, while also gaining valuable experience himself along the way.”

Barnard now completes the line-up for McLaren as the sport heads into their first race of the season this week as Sam Bird joins from Jaguar to partner up with Jake Hughes.

That’s it for the article; McLaren Formula E announce Taylor Barnard as reserve and development driver!
