On day two of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, McLaren showcased their 2027 WEC Hypercar – the MCL-HY – for the first time globally, diverting their new contender from its testing programme.

It wasn’t an initially planned decision to make an appearance at Goodwood on Friday, with McLaren confirming it was a ‘last-minute call’ to divert the car to the festival, after hitting both its on and off track targets.

The car made its first light run up the iconic Goodwood hill in its Bruce McLaren test livery and conducted its first runs on Friday, with more demo runs set to be completed on Saturday before returning to testing ahead of the 2027 WEC season.

James Barclay, McLaren’s Team Principal for its Hypercar team, said:

“Goodwood Festival of Speed is the greatest car show on Earth, so it made sense for us to have this on our radar. But the truth is, it’s extremely early in our test programme, so it was very lightly pencilled in.

“However, our team has done an incredible job, hitting every target on- and off-track, so we made the last-minute call to divert the MCL-HY to the event for two of the four days and share it with the passionate motorsport fans that attend.”

Having made its debut on Friday, McLaren has two more demo runs planned for 12:40pm and 5:05pm on Saturday.

When the car leaves Goodwood, it will return to its preparations of the V6-twin-turbocharged hypercar ahead of its season and 24 Hours of Le Mans debut next year.
