Toyota continues to lead 24 Hours of Le Mans after 4 hours

Toyota remains the race leader of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after four hours of the event, with their #8 car, ahead of the #20 BMW.

Toyota took the lead of the race at the end of the first hour of the 94th edition of the Le Mans 24 Hour race, and the team remain out front as the event completes the first four hours. 

After hours of running around the Circuit de la Sarthe, the competition has been well-behaved as everyone settles into their rhythm, but it hasn’t been without issue. 

Ferrari’s Antonio Fuoco, in the #50 Ferrari, suffered a spin at Tertre Rouge after near contact with a LMP2 backmarker, on the run to the Mulsanne Straight. Fortunately, the Ferrari was able to keep the car out of trouble and get going again.

The race endured its first Full Course Yellow for debris, but the #20 BMW, #12 and #101 Cadillacs had to come in for an emergency service, with the #20 car with the initial lead. However, the track went back to green flag conditions three minutes later, when the #101 was in the middle of their stop.

It meant that the #8 Toyota running fourth was able to get back up to full speed and move to third before the #101 left the pit lane. The other two cars, which stopped for an emergency service, pulled into the pit lane on the following lap, allowing the #8 to regain the lead. 

Whilst the #50 Ferrari suffered a spin, earlier on, the sister #51 car got itself into a bit of trouble as Alessandro Pier Guidi collided with the side of the #9 LMP2 car, knocking into a couple of bollards in the process as they ran wide and behind the kerb. 

Onboards showed that the Ferrari snapped wide, hitting the #9, and forced both cars off track. The #51 was later given a drive-through for the incident, whilst the #9 came into the pits for an inspection before being released back onto the circuit.
