Following the outcome of the British Grand Prix, Pirelli was back out on track with both Mercedes and Williams as the manufacturer continued work on finalising the tyre structure for the 2027 season.

On Tuesday, Mercedes’ George Russell and Williams’ Carlos Sainz were out on the track at the iconic Silverstone circuit, starting off the development tests. Their teammates followed suit on Wednesday to conclude said tests.

Mercedes’ Formula 1 championship leader, Kimi Antonelli, and Williams’ Alexander Albon took the wheel of their respective cars on Wednesday, having taken over from Russell and Sainz, respectively.

Antonelli went out on the track in the morning, completing ‘screening runs,’ before moving on to long runs, which were designed to evaluate ‘the most promising solutions’ identified in the morning session. The Italian completed a total of 102 laps, equalling 600km, with a best time of 1m 31.511s.

Albon, on the other hand, was given a programme that focused on the C2 and C1 compounds, carrying out performance runs in the morning before doing long runs in the afternoon to assess ‘most interesting options’ for Pirelli. The Williams clocked 97 laps, 571km, with a best time of 1m 31.747s.

It was a more promising day for the Williams driver after Sainz was not able to finish off his programme on Tuesday, due to a technical issue.

Pirelli has confirmed that the next set of development tyre tests will be scheduled to take place after the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Audi, Alpine and Aston Martin taking part. These tests are set to take place from Tuesday, July 28, to Wednesday, July 29.
