Pirelli has been at work following the British Grand Prix with development testing that will help the tyre manufacturer finalise the structure of their dry-weather tyres, which will be used next season. This comes as the team will face a ‘specification freeze’ which is set by the regulations on September 1.

Tuesday was the first day of a two-day test for the Italian manufacturer, with Wednesday producing its second test of the week. It follows on from their development tests, which were conducted in Barcelona, following the respective race weekend, in which Ferrari and Cadillac took part.

Russell and Sainz were the only two drivers taking part in the test, with screening runs in the morning and then long runs in the afternoon.

Mercedes championship contender, Russell, was able to clock 113 laps around the Silverstone track, equalling 665km, setting the fastest time of 1 minute and 30.695 seconds. On the other hand, Sainz was only able to complete 61 laps, equalling 359km, with a best time of 1 minute and 33.576 seconds.

However, the Williams reportedly had a technical issue, which meant the Spaniard was not able to complete the programme across the day.

Pirelli has confirmed that the test will resume tomorrow, with Alexander Albon and F1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli stepping in for Sainz and Russell, respectively.
