The WEC will arrive in France ahead of its biggest event of the season, the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. Conducted around the 13.626km track, the Circuit de la Sarthe, the race is a test of physical, mental and mechanical endurance.
Weather can play a vital role in the prestigious event, as the rain could hit certain parts of the large circuit, prompting a complicated tyre strategy to be considered. In 2024, rain struck early, prompting some drivers to go out onto the circuit with the wet tyres booted on, whilst others braved it out on the dry, slick tyres.
Last year, the 24-hour race was conducted in dry conditions, meaning strategy calls were fairly simple amongst tyre selection. 12 months later, and it is expected to be similar to this year’s edition of the event.
According to the weather watchers at Accuweather, the WEC will miss the worst of the weather with rain expected on Tuesday (June 9). Following on, it’s expected to be a dry affair throughout the weekend, but a slight chance of rain remains.
Wednesday – June 10
The opening day of the weekend is expected to suffer a wet start in the morning, but it is set to clear up for the remainder of the day. Temperatures will be as high as 20°.
There is nearly an even chance of rain, as it is predicted to be 40% with only half an hour of rain expected.
This is reduced as the day goes into the night with lows of 8° and an 8% chance of rain.
Thursday – June 11
The second day of the event is set to see ‘broken intervals,’ meaning a mix of cloud cover and clear skies. Temperatures are forecast to hold steady at 20°, with a lower chance of rain, reduced to 23%.
Conditions are set to be similar as it goes into the night, with lows of 13° with rain not really expected, reduced to 4%.
Saturday – June 13
When the race gets underway on Saturday afternoon, there is some cloud cover expected, sitting at 46%, but the sun is forecast to break through. Temperatures are forecast to increase to 28°, and there is no chance of rain.
Overnight, it’s expected to be a clear night of dry running conditions with no rain expected, with the heat dropping to 13°.
Sunday – June 14
As the race crosses into its second half, the conditions are expected to remain dry, with the probability of rain sitting at 0% across the day. It’s forecast to be a warm day on Sunday with 24° in the morning before increasing to 27° in the afternoon.
