Ferrari completed Friday’s action around the streets of Monaco with the fastest laps across the two hours of practice, as Hamilton sealed the fastest lap time of FP2 with a 1m 13.026s lap. It gave the Italian squad a clean sweep of fastest laps as Leclerc topped the opening hour of practice during FP1.
It also marked the second consecutive session of the weekend where the iconic red team took a one-two position, on the timing boards, across both FP1 and FP2.
Red Bull Racing’s four-time world champion, Max Verstappen, completed the top three, nearly two-tenths behind the seven-time world champion’s best time.
However, like the opening hour of practice, the session wasn’t without issues.
Current reigning world champion, McLaren’s Lando Norris, brought out the Virtual Safety Car during the session after his car seemed to suffer technical problems coming out of the tunnel. He managed to stop his car on the run-off area at the Nouvelle Chicane, of which the Marshals quickly worked to get his car off the track.
In the dying moments of the session, Cadillac’s Sergio Perez had his own fiery problem on the run up to Beau Rivage as smoke was shown to be coming from the front of his car.
The Mexican pulled off to the side of the track at Casino, where his front right brake erupted into flames. When the car was secure for Perez to get out, the marshals managed to quickly extinguish the flame.
