“It’s been a really, really good weekend.” That was Franco Colapinto’s verdict following his most competitive Formula 1 weekend to date. In Miami, the Argentine driver had every reason to be satisfied with his performance.
The 22-year-old delivered an impressive showing throughout the Miami Grand Prix weekend. He secured two top-ten finishes in both Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying sessions, outperforming teammate Pierre Gasly in both formats. The Alpine driver also consistently demonstrated improved pace, ultimately securing a valuable seventh-place finish in Sunday’s race following Charles Leclerc’s post-race penalty.
Despite an early on-track incident involving Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari, which sustained damage after contact, Colapinto managed to maintain his composure and avoid letting the moment compromise his overall performance.
Alpine’s latest upgrade package appeared to provide a meaningful boost in competitiveness, particularly benefiting Colapinto through improved car balance and stronger race pace.
While questions remain regarding Alpine’s long-term midfield standing, Miami offered encouraging signs that the team may finally be moving in a more competitive direction.
For the Argentine, this result marks a significant step forward after a frustrating 2025 campaign, during which inconsistent machinery and limited opportunities prevented him from scoring points for the Enstone-based team. Following his Mercado Libre-sponsored roadshow, which reportedly attracted an estimated 600,000 fans, Colapinto appeared to arrive in Miami with renewed confidence and momentum.
Entering the 2026 season under increased pressure to prove his value, Miami presented a critical opportunity, one he capitalised on effectively.
If this Grand Prix serves as a genuine turning point rather than an isolated success, Franco Colapinto’s return to the points could become one of Alpine’s most promising storylines of the 2026 season.
