German Automotive brand, which has a history in motorsports, is set to join the 11 teams on the F1 grid next season with its own power unit and chassis. The team are set to replace the current Kick Sauber squad when the season ignites next year.
It follows their announcement to join F1 in 2026, all the way back in 2022.
At Audi’s Brand Experience Center in Munich, the brand gave a preview of its upcoming livery with a concept on the R26, the name given for its F1 model.
The R26 concept showcased a titanium, carbon black and newly introduced Audi red colour palette. Whilst the brand will utilise its iconic rings, highlighted in red on the concept, it will be ‘used selectively to underscore’ its presence in F1.
“By entering the pinnacle of motorsport, Audi is making a clear, ambitious statement,” commented Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. “It is the next chapter in the company’s renewal. Formula 1 will be a catalyst for the change towards a leaner, faster and more innovative Audi.”

“We are not entering Formula 1 just to be there. We want to win,” Döllner continued. “At the same time, we know that you don’t become a top team in Formula 1 overnight. It takes time, perseverance and tireless questioning of the status quo. By 2030, we want to fight for the World Championship title.”
Audi already has their drivers ready for their arrival in Formula 1, next season, as current Sauber drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will continue with the team as they transition into the new era of F1.
The team have also been building a power unit facility in Neuberg, Germany, whilst making improvements to Sauber’s current base in Hinwil, Switzerland. They are also opening a technology centre in Bicester.
The team is expected to make its official team launch in January 2026, with official test drives to take place in January in Barcelona, ahead of the two Bahrain tests in February.
It follows on from Red Bulls and Racing Bull’s announcement to reveal their 2026 championship contenders in a joint launch event on January 15, 2026.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
