Ferrari drivers share posts of unity following criticism

Both Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have said posts of unity following recent criticism from Ferrari Chairman John Elkann.

Following the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, a race where Ferrari failed to see the chequered flag with both of their cars, the Ferrari boss, Elkann voiced his criticism of the drivers. The boss claimed the drivers must ‘talk less’ and ‘focus more’ on driving.

The critique comes from a tough season for Ferrari, following a runner-up season last year against McLaren. The Scuderia are yet to claim their first win of the season, only securing a single sprint victory in China, earlier this year with Hamilton.

After the criticism, Hamilton stated that he will continue to back the team, despite the current hardship. On social media he said:

“I back my team. I back myself. I will not give up. Not now, not then, not ever. Thank you, Brazil, always”

Shortly after, Leclerc posted on social media, highlighting an importance of unity after the team fell to fourth in the constructors championship, heading into the final three races of the season. He said:

“A very difficult weekend in São Paulo.

“Disappointing to come back home with nearly no points at all for the team in what is a critical moment of the season to fight for the 2nd place in the constructors championship.

“It’s uphill from now and it’s clear that only unity can help us turn that situation around in the last 3 races. We’ll give it all, as always.”

It was a disappointing race for the Scuderia after both cars failed to make it to the chequered flag, making it a third pointless grand prix of the season, following the Chinese disqualifications, and the Dutch and Brazil double retirements.

Leclerc was the first to retire after the Monegasque was a victim to a secondary collision in between McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli. The #16 Ferrari lost its tyre in the contact, suffered terminal suspension damage and quickly retired at the entry of turn four.

Further along in the race, Hamilton was ordered to box to retire having sustained a loss of 30 to 40 points of downforce, according to Ferrari Team Boss, Fred Vasseur.

The seven-time world champion made contact with Williams’ Carlos Sainz at the race start before tapping the rear of Alpine’s Franco Colapinto, separately, at the end of the first lap.
