Toyota’s two-time world champion, Rovanpera, has completed his first outing in F2 machinery ahead of his departure from the WRC at the end of the current 2025 campaign.
Rovanpera recently announced that he would leave the WRC, a sport he has secured two world titles, 29 podiums, 261 stage wins and 17 rally victories, in pursuit of a career in single-seaters.
The two-time world champion has released pictures of his outing in an F2 car, a Hitech F2 car with Toyota branding, featuring him inside the car. He said on social media:
“First F2 test done! Can be quite happy with the test days. We got some valuable seat time and finally real feeling with the car!
“Next week it’s time for Rally Japan!”
It is not the first time Rovanpera has gotten seat time in a Formula-series car as he previously drove Formula 4 and Formula 3.5 machinery before he jumped into a Formula 1 car, Red Bull Racing’s RB8.
Rovanpera will head over to the Super Formula series in Japan next year, as he embarks on a unique twist from rally driving to single-seaters, with a targeted move to F2 in 2027 and a potential aim for Formula 1.
Rovanpera is set to depart the WRC, as either a two-time or three-time world champion, as he still remains in contention for the WRC Driver’s title, with two rounds to go.
He is currently locked in battle against his teammates, Elfyn Evans and Sebastien Ogier. Evans currently leads the championship on 247 points, whilst Ogier and Rovanpera sit in second and third, respectively, joint on points.
Rally Japan is the next event on the WRC calendar, next week, ahead of the season finale in Saudi Arabia at the end of November.
