Japan is the next upcoming rally on the World Rally Championship calendar, and stands as the second-last event after the inaugural Saudi Arabian rally took over as the season finale.

It’s the final tarmac event of the season, following its return at the Central European Rally, before the WRC heads back to gravel for the season finale.

The stages are narrow, technical and twisty, meaning the room for error is non-existent and changing conditions – and grip – don’t help lessen the punishing test for the competing crews.

So, ahead of the event, who is confirmed to take part in the penultimate rally of the year?

Toyota

The newly reinstated championship leader, Evans, will lead the pack off onto the stages on the first full day of the event, ahead of joint championship rivals Sebastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanpera.

Takamoto Katsuta and Sami Pajari will complete the five-car line-up in their home event.

Hyundai

Ott Tanak will continue to head the three-car Hyundai lineup. However, following the team’s earlier decision – ahead of the previous Central European Rally – Tanak will continue to rally without scoring manufacturer points. That said, Toyota claimed the manufacturer’s title last time out in CER.

He will be accompanied by his fellow teammates Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux.

M-Sport Ford

Cumbria-based M-Sport Ford will not take an extended lineup to Japan when the action gets underway, and will only take its usual two-car entry. Joshua McErlean will head Gregoire Munster when the action gets underway.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
