The FIA confirmed that Sainz’s Williams car was subject to further inspections regarding the rear brake system, after the Spaniard took home his first podium finish for the Wantage-based team.
Sainz was the only car selected out of the top 10 finishers for these inspections, having finished third behind the race winner Max Verstappen and Mercedes’ runner-up George Russell.
A series of areas were inspected around the Spaniard’s car such as;
- Homologation status of all sensors and actuators connected to the Standard ECU [Electronic Control Unit] relating to the rear brake system (TR Article 8.3)
- Brake system failure modes (TR Article 11.1)
- Potential mechanisms capable of producing asymmetric braking torque across the rear axle (TR Article 11.1)
- Verification that pressure in the rear calipers does not exceed that generated by the applied brake pedal force (TR Article 11.4)
- Full review of the powered brake control system (TR Article 11.6)
- Accuracy of submitted schematics compared to the physical implementation of the system (TD001 N)
Singapore Grand Prix declared heat hazard for first-time ever
In the FIA document, they said:
“After the race in Baku, car number 55 [Sainz] was randomly chosen among the top ten cars for more extensive physical inspections.
“Subject to these were physical inspections was the rear brake system.”
The FIA found that all of the inspected components on Sainz’s Williams were in accordance with the 2025 F1 Technical Regulations.
Sainz’s podium, built upon a successful qualifying around Baku having qualified second in a red flag-filled session, ends a run of five consecutive races where he finished outside the points, spanning from the British Grand Prix to the Italian Grand Prix.
His podium finish pushes him up the drivers standings to 12th, one point ahead of Racing Bulls in 13th place. Additionally, a score of 15 points bolsters Williams Racing’s 5th place in the constructors championship, 29 points ahead of sixth-place Racing Bulls.
