Oliver Bearman will ‘take into account’ his points ahead of Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Oliver Bearman has said he needs to have ‘a few clean races’ as the Haas driver risks a race ban, ahead of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Bearman is on the cusp of a race ban in Formula 1, in his rookie season, as he has 10 points on his superlicence, two points away from the maximum of 12.

If the Briton achieves another two points, he will follow in the footsteps of the man he replaced at last year’s Azerbaijan GP, Kevin Magnussen.

Ironically, the Dane – now World Endurance racer – obtained 12 points after last season’s Italian GP and was forced to miss the following race, the 2024 Azerbaijan GP.

Going into the Baku weekend, Bearman has acknowledged his perilous position and has said he will take it into account. Speaking ahead of the Azerbaijan GP, Bearman said

“It’s definitely something that I have to take into account. It’s a shame to be at this point, but yeah, just have to have a few clean races for the next few”

The first two of the current 10 penalty points won’t be removed until November 3, 2025, after he collided with then-Williams driver Franco Colapinto at the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

If he obtains the 12 points this weekend, or in the near future, he will return after his race ban with a clean licence.

The rule, which was introduced in 2014, has only ever been enacted once and ironically, it was also enacted against Haas.

It gave Bearman his Haas debut, and his second-ever F1 outing after his super-sub performance at Ferrari, replacing Carlos Sainz, at the Saudi Arabian GP.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
