Hamilton was the fastest driver in the second hour of practice in Azerbaijan and he edged out his teammate, Charles Leclerc, by 0.074s by the time the chequered flag fell. Meanwhile, both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri had trouble, finishing 10th and 12th, respectively.

Drivers had begun to test Baku’s limits as the escape roads were in use early on in the session with Liam Lawson option to use the escape road at turn 15.

Norris had a moment part-way through the session as the championship contender hit the wall at turn four. It had caused his left tyre to deflate, and the Briton fought his way back to the pits with damage. He did not return to the circuit.

Piastri also had his own issues, tapping the barrier at turn 15. After precautionary checks in the pits, he was back out onto the circuit.

Whilst the McLaren’s struggled out on track, it left room for Mercedes’ George Russell to round out the top three, 0.477s behind his former teammate’s best time.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
