Oscar Piastri clinches Dutch Grand Prix pole pipping Lando Norris
30th August 2025McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has taken pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix, pipping teammate Lando Norris, as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished third.

It was a sunny day on the Zandvoort Circuit, on the Dutch coast of the North Sea, as the first qualifying session on Formula 1’s return got underway.
After Norris completed the opening three practice sessions at the top of the timing boards, it was expected that the Briton would be in the running for – or take – pole position for the first race back after the summer break.
However, after the first run of Q3, Piastri managed to pip his teammate to take the top grid spot for Sunday’s race, beating Norris by 0.012 seconds.
Verstappen looked to be within a shout of threatening McLaren’s position at the top, when he set a purple sector in the second sector, but the Dutchman was not able to muster the pace to topple them. In turn, he finished the session in third, two-tenths off the pace.
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll brought out the only yellow flags of the session as the Canadian touched the dirt at turn 13, early on in Q1. Under braking, the Aston Martin snapped out from under him and spun him up the gravel bank and into the barrier.
There was damage to Stroll’s front wing, but he was able to pull himself back onto the track and back to the pits. He was instructed to remain in the car with 10 minutes on the clock, in the event the mechanics could get him back out.
As the session wore on, it was clear he would not make another appearance in qualifying. He finished last with no time set on the board.
