Paraguay is set to make its WRC debut this time next week, with red-earth stages and tricky technical sections ready to leave a mark on the championship.
The teams and drivers are set for an unpredictable event, with limited data, accompanied by high-speed stages and narrow margins for error, especially if and when the grip changes. It will punish those who are not adapting well to the conditions.
The Rally del Paraguay will be based around Encarnación, north of the Paraná river, and the WRC states it will stand as a ‘true all-round test of adaptability.’
Originally published in the beginning of August, who is set to compete at the upcoming WRC event in South America?
Toyota
The returning championship leader, Elfyn Evans will lead the pack to open the road when the event gets underway and he will be closely followed by Kalle Rovanpera, who is emerging as a title contender.
Sebastien Ogier, Sami Pajari and Takamoto Katsuta will complete the five-car entry in Paraguay.
Hyundai
Like normal, Hyundai will bring their three-car entry with all three drivers hoping for better outings than Finland, last time out.
The 2019 world champion, Ott Tanak will lead the defending world champion, Thierry Neuville in Paraguay, and Adrien Fourmaux will complete the South Korean manufacturer’s line up.
M-Sport Ford
Unlike recent events, M-Sport Ford will return to a two-car entry with Martins Sesks completing his part-time schedule for the team.
Gregoire Munster will lead Joshua McErlean for the Cumbrian-based squad.
