Hyundai have had a mixed weekend at the World Rally Championship’s Rally Finland, after Ott Tanak dropped outside the top 10, and it has been made worse on Saturday.

Ahead of the 15th stage of the rally, both Neuville and Fourmaux were running in second and third, respectively, behind Toyota’s Kalle Rovanpera, with the Finn extending his lead over the trailing Hyundais.

However, on the 16th stage of the event, both Hyundai drivers suffered the same right-front puncture on the same stage.

Whilst both drivers lost time, Neuville did not suffer much damage compared to his teammate, as Fourmaux’s car sustained some damage to the fender when they arrived at the stop line.

Both cars arrived at the end of the stage with no tyres left, just the rims.

In terms of lost time, only 10 seconds separated the two punctured Hyundais from each other. Neuville finished the course one minute and 38.2 seconds off the pace of Toyota’s Sami Pajari, who won the stage, whilst Fourmaux finished one minute and 48.8 seconds behind Pajari’s time.

As a result, it meant the lost time dropped the Hyundais from second and third to sixth and seventh, for Neuville and Fourmaux, respectively.

In turn, Toyota have benefited from their rivals’ misfortunes as they now hold a provisional 1-2-3-4-5 position in the overall timing boards, with Rovanpera ahead of Takamoto Katsuta, Sebastien Ogier, Elfyn Evans and Pajari, respectively.

Rovanpera also had a puncture on the morning loop, on Saturday, but he was fortunate that it didn’t cost him much time as he held onto the lead into the midday service.
