Ahead of the Belgian GP, the FIA has released a document confirming two cars were subject to more ‘extensive physical inspections’ after the British Grand Prix, two weeks ago.

Verstappen and Alonso’s cars were the two that were randomly selected, amongst the top 10, for further inspections having finished fifth and ninth, respectively.

For the Dutch four-time world champion, his car’s further inspection related to the team’s electronic units.

A reprogrammable electronic device was selected for ‘software verification,’ and to ensure a suitable mechanism was used that was previously registered with the FIA.

Schedule: what are the official timings for the Belgian Grand Prix?

On Alonso’s car, the two-time world champion’s car had the internal combustion engine air intake system inspected, in addition to attached sensors, loom routing and connections to the SECU (Standard Electronic Control Unit) and other units.

Following the inspections, the FIA found both cars were compliant with the Formula 1 technical regulations.

The Belgian Grand Prix will get underway this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps on Friday with the sole practice of the weekend, starting at 12:30pm local.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
