Following the opening first hour of practice, Piastri maintained his form as he went fastest in Free Practice 2. As such, the Australian completed a clean sweep of fastest laps around the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari on Friday.

As Pirelli brought their softest tyres of their 2025 range, many drivers opted to utilise the medium compounds in their opening stints in FP2. This followed a series of tests of the debutant C6 Pirelli rubber in FP1.

However, it wasn’t a session without trouble as Racing Bull’s Isack Hadjar caused a red flag in the dying moments of the hour. The Frenchman crashed his VCARB at the first chicane before he got going again.

Having stopped on the edge of the circuit, waiting to rejoin, he soon became beached in the gravel trap, prompting the red flag.

Who finished where?

Piastri returned to the top of the timing boards, pipping his best time of FP1, with a lap time of 1m 15.293s, which was 0.025s faster than Norris’ best time in second. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly rounded out the top three, in third, 0.276s off the pace.

Mercedes’ George Russell remained unchanged from FP1 as he returned to fourth place ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, in fifth.

Charles Leclerc was the fastest Ferrari, down in sixth, ahead of Hadjar, Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) and the two Williams of Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz, from seventh to 10th, respectively.

Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari, who finished FP1 in fifth, dropped down the order in the second hour of practice as he occupied 11th-fastest ahead of the British rookie Oliver Bearman (Haas) and Alpine’s Franco Colapinto, in 12th and 13th.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Racing Bull’s Liam Lawson rounded out the top 15 drivers in 14th and 15th.

Kick Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto led the bottom five drivers in the order, in 16th, as his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg, finished 19th ahead of Haas’ Esteban Ocon, in 20th.

This left the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll and Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli to fill the void in 17th and 18th, respectively.
