Rally Islas Canarias is a new addition to the 2025 calendar and will make its WRC debut next weekend on the Canary Island of Gran Canaria. It will mark a return to asphalt after three rounds of asphalt, snow and gravel, in Monte-Carlo, Sweden and Kenya, respectively.
It has earned its own reputation for being an asphalt challenge, following success in the European Rally Championship. The warm weather will also add an extra challenge for the crews.
The Canaray rally will consist of 18 stages, tackling 301.3km of Spanish terrain. 10 WRC Rally1 crews will also tackle the inaugural Islas Canarias. So, who will be competing in the event?
Toyota
The defending world champions will be taking a five-car lineup to the Canary Islands with Elfyn Evans set to continue with his strong form at the head of the drivers’ standings.
He will be joined alongside returning eight-time world champion, Sebastien Ogier, two-time champion, Kalle Rovanpera and Takamoto Katsuta. Sami Pajari will continue in the fifth Rally1 Yaris.
Hyundai
The championship contenders will take their usual three-car entry to Gran Canaria with Thierry Neuville leading the way in the standings. He will be accompanied by his usual teammates Ott Tanak and Adrien Fourmaux.
Ford
Unlike recent rallies, M-Sport Ford will return to a two-car entry, having used Jourdan Serderidis and Martins Sesks. Gregoire Munster and Joshua McErlean will be the only drivers to complete the M-Sport entry.
