It was the final hour of practice at the Bahrain Grand Prix and McLaren did not let up going into qualifying as Piastri clocked a storming lap in the final practice hour.
The Australian secured a lap which was over half a second of his teammate, Lando Norris, and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was the only other driver to break within a second of the time.
It means McLaren rounds out practice fastest overall with Norris topping FP1 and Piastri going fastest in FP2 and FP3.
However, it wasn’t smooth sailing as Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg suffered problems out on track and stopped at turn eight. He couldn’t get going again, which prompted a temporary Virtual Safety Car.

The Mercedes duo of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth.
Pierre Gasly was the fastest Alpine, in sixth, ahead of Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who occupied seventh and eighth. Williams’ Carlos Sainz and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton completed the top 10, in ninth and 10th, respectively.
Haas’ Esteban Ocon was 11th ahead of Alpine’s Jack Doohan and Racing Bull’s Liam Lawson, 12th and 13th, respectively. Leaving Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Williams’ Alexander Albon to finish 14th and 15th.
Oliver Bearman, Haas, finished ahead of Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll in 16th and 17th, respectively, as the Kick Sauber duo of Gabriel Bortoleto and Hulkenberg occupied 18th and 19th.
This left Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda to complete the 20-car field down in 20th, 3.319s off the pace of Piastri.
