Mercedes wins Australian GP Right of Review to promote Antonelli P4
16th March 2025Mercedes has won their right of review, and it has promoted Kimi Antonelli back to fourth in the Australian Grand Prix race classification.

Following the outcome of the Australian GP, where George Russell and Kimi Antonelli finished fourth, a five-second time penalty dropped the latter down to fifth, behind Williams’ Alexander Albon.
It was deemed at the time by the stewards that Antonelli had been released into the path of Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg in the pit lane and, thus, a time penalty of five-seconds was awarded.
After the race, the team petitioned a ‘Right of Review’ where the team provided a ‘significant and relevant new’ element which was unavailable.
The hearing took place shortly after which the Silver Arrows provided the new video from ‘the roll hoop camera which was previously unavailable.’ The Stewards deemed this to be relevant and significant in their opinion as it was unavailable when they made their decision.

In addition to the helicopter footage, which was footage not previously available to them, it was deemed clear that Antonelli did not cross into the fast lane until he was a ‘significant distance’ down the pit lane, and after Antonelli checked his mirrors to ensure a ‘clearance’ with Hulkenberg.
The roll hoop footage showed the young Italian had enough room to pass the McLaren pits without risking their safety.
As a result of these new elements, the Steward reversed their previous decision and stripped Antonelli of his five-second time penalty.
Following this outcome, it now means Russell keeps his third-place finish whilst Antonelli moves back to fourth. In the standings, it means Mercedes now stand as joint-leaders with McLaren as the two teams are equal on points (27) in the constructors championship.
