Melbourne will return to its traditional place as the season opening round of the F1 World Championship after being sidelined for the Bahrain Grand Prix in recent years, thanks to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The year 2025 marks Albert Park’s official return as round one on the calendar since 2019, ahead of the cancelled event in 2020 when McLaren withdrew due to their personnel contracting COVID-19.
McLaren will return to Australia with home hero Oscar Piastri as the defending world constructors’ champion. Whereas Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will hope for better fortunes to kickstart his fourth consecutive title defence in F1.
So, according to BBC Weather, what is the expected forecast in Melbourne?
Friday
For the opening day of the F1 season, and the opening first and second practice sessions, it is expected to be a dry and sunny day in Melbourne.
First Practice 1 is set to start at 12:30pm (local), and FP2 will start three and a half hours after, at 4pm (local). This means the sessions will start at a modest temperature of 26° before it increases to a maximum of 36°.
Across the day, there is no chance of rain.
Saturday
Consecutively, it will be another dry day of running in F1 with it set to be a sunny day across the board.
FP3 and qualifying will start at the same times as FP1 and FP2, respectively. Despite this, FP3 will have a hotter temperature at 31°, whereas qualifying will endure a weekend high of 36°.
Similarly to Friday, there will be no threat of rain.
Sunday
For the first race of the season, following an expected dry weekend, there is more than a 95% threat of rain on race day starting from 8am until 5pm.
Around 11am local time, there are thunderstorms predicted prior to the race. But this is set to reduce to light rain shows at lights out at 3pm as it starts to clear through the afternoon.
The temperature is expected to stand at around 24° at race time.

Hi, I’m Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion.
I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I’ve loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
