Ferrari conquer Qatar 1812km with 1-2-3 finish

Ferrari dominated the Qatar 1812km race by completing a 1-2-3 podium finish at the World Endurance Championship season opener in the Middle East.

The World Endurance Championship Season has finally kicked off in the Middle East to ignite the 2025 campaign of endurance racing with the 10-hour Qatar 1812km race. 

Ferrari put in a dominating performance and laid down the gauntlet for the remainder of the season in the Hypercar class. The Italian outfit secured an impressive 1-2-3 finish through the Ferrari AF Corse and AF Corse teams. 

Corvette also started its season well in the LM GT3 class, beating McLaren and BMW to the top spot after starting 31st on the grid—13th in class.

Ahead of the race, Ferrari was in a promising position as Antonio Giovinazzi secured pole position in the Hypercar Hyperpole session ahead of BMW’s M Team WRT and teammate Antonio Fucoco.  

When the race got underway, the Italian outfit ran one-two with their #51 and #50 499P cars, ahead of BMW’s ex-Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen. The AF Corse, which ended second on the podium, sat eighth at the beginning, behind the defending champions’ #7 GR10.  

Despite two drive-through penalties, part-way through the 1812km race, which hindered the #51 car (driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Giovinazzi), the team fought back to finish third overall.

After 10 hours, the #50 Ferrari secured the championship’s opening win ahead of two other Ferrari cars: the #83 AF Corse (driven by Robert Kubica, Yi Yifei, and Philip Hanson) and the #51 Ferrari, which completed the podium.

In the LM GT3 class, TF Sport in their Corvette won the race for the class ahead of United Autosport’s McLaren and The Bend Team WRT’s BMW. 

Naturally, in terms of the championship, it means Ferrari AF Corse now become the manufacturer championship leaders with a total of 65 points to their name, ahead of BMW and Toyota.

TF Sport stand as the LMGT3 Teams championship leaders, with 38 points, ahead of both United Autosports and The Bend Team WRT.
