Jack Doohan aiming to support Alpine’s constructors fight in Abu Dhabi GP debut

Jack Doohan will join Alpine this weekend, making his official debut in Formula 1, and he is aiming to support the teams fight for sixth in the constructors championship.

Whilst the Driver’s championship is signed, sealed and delivered to the hands of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, in Las Vegas, the constructor’s fight will conclude this weekend. McLaren and Ferrari will be fighting for the title with both teams looking to end their drought of championship glory.

Further down the order, Alpine find themselves in a tight scrap for sixth in the constructors table. They currently hold the position going into the season finale, on 59pts, whilst Haas and Visa Cash App RB remain just behind, five and 13 points respectively. 

Doohan was announced earlier this week as Esteban Ocon’s replacement as the team released the departing Frenchman to allow him to conduct Haas’ post-test test after Abu Dhabi. As such, Doohan has given himself the aim to support Alpine’s ambition to finish sixth in the constructors. He said:

“This weekend, as well as the post-season test, present an opportunity for myself and the team to have additional track time together as we gear up for the 2025 season and the aim for myself will be to support the team’s ambition to finish in sixth in the Constructors’ Championship. 

“I am looking forward to working together with them to achieve this goal and to close out the season on a positive note.”

Doohan will go into Abu Dhabi with at least some experience racing at the Yas Marina Circuit, more recently when the Australian competed in the sport’s feeder series, Formula 2 in 2023. 

The Australian driver finished last season’s F2 season in third with Invicta Virtuosi Racing, completing his final race in Abu Dhabi with a win. In his final season of F2, the new Alpine driver secured three wins and five podium finishes.

In his debut, Doohan will become the784th F1 driver to start an F1 world championship event, on Sunday, and will become the 16th Australian driver to start an F1 event, behind Daniel Ricciardo and Oscar Piastri. 

“It is great to be making my Formula One debut with the team in Abu Dhabi this weekend. 

“This track holds a lot of special memories for me. I have raced at the Yas Marina Circuit at various points throughout my career and it is also where I won my final Formula 2 race in 2023, so I am excited to get back on track there but this time in Formula One.”
