Following his drive in Brazil which demonstrated how and why the Verstappen is a world champion, the question became ‘when’ instead of ‘if’ he would secure the world championship title, considering his championship fight with McLaren’s Lando Norris.

Heading into Las Vegas, it was highly considered that Verstappen would be able to secure his world title in the race as long as he outscored Norris by three points.

The Dutchman started the race ahead of his championship rival having qualified in fifth whilst Norris started sixth. From lights out, Verstappen never fell behind his title rival and worked his way up to second in the race.

However, in the dying embers, the Dutchman came under pressure from both Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc and was soon overtaken by both.

In the end, Verstappen finished in the same position he started behind the two Mercedes and two Ferraris, with George Russell winning the race ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton and Sainz.

He now becomes the second Red Bull driver to take four consecutive world titles, following in the footsteps of Sebastian Vettel (2010-2013). Both drivers took their first title with the team and took championship glory three more times.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
