Norris tops sole practice in Brazil GP ahead of Russell and Bearman
1st November 2024McLaren’s Lanco Norris topped the only practice session of the Brazilian Grand Prix, ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell and Haas super-sub Oliver Bearman, at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace.

In the penultimate sprint race weekend of the season, in Brazil, Formula 1 had one sole practice session this weekend to allow the teams up and down the field to gather data and hone in their set-ups.
There was a driver change ahead of the session. Kevin Magnussen was unwell, so Bearman took over the Dane’s race seat which was authorised by the FIA ahead of practice.
At the end of the first hour, Norris topped the timing boards ahead of Russell and Bearman, who completed the top three, with soft tyre runs. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Williams’ Alexander Albon completed the top five, in fourth and fifth respectively.
The Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz occupied sixth and seventh ahead of Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg in eighth. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10 in ninth and 10th.

Visa Cash App RB’s Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda were the fastest drivers inside the bottom 10, in 11th and 12th. The latter was also the last driver to remain within a second of Norris’ benchmark time.
Williams’ Franco Colapinto, in what is the closest event to a home race, completed practice in 13th ahead of Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who completed the top 15.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, who had complained of pain throughout his long runs, completed the session in 16th ahead of Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon in 17th and 18 respectively.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez occupied 19th ahead of Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu. The former had taken a new chassis for this event after a painful home race, last weekend.
