On Sunday, Toyota became the first World Rally team to secure the maximum haul of points under the new points system this year, taking a haul of 55 points.

This came after the team secured a 1-2 finish in the overall rally with Rovanpera leading the charge for the Japanese marquee with teammate, Elfyn Evans in second.

The team locked out a 1-2-3 finish in the new Super Sunday classification, led by eight-time world champion, Sebastien Ogier who had led the fastest power stage time to take home a haul of 12 points over a troubling weekend.

“This is a great result for our team,” commented Toyota Gazoo Racing Team Principal, Jari-Matti Latvia. “A perfect Sunday for the first time this season feels really good, especially after the devastating blows we felt on the final days of the past two events.

“Our drivers did a magnificent job today pushing until the end of the last stage. This result will boost the whole team and give them extra motivation for the two remaining events.”

As a result of Toyota’s ‘perfect’ weekend, the reigning champions have now cut down the deficit to the championship leaders from 35 points to 17.

Whilst the driver’s championship may be all but sealed, heading towards Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville, Toyota has two more rounds to continue their fight to defend the manufacturer’s title.

The Central European Rally, which crosses three countries; Germany, Czech Republic and Austria, is the next event up on the calendar as the penultimate event of the season. This will get underway on October 17 to October 20.
