Rovanpera wins WRC Rally Chile despite challenging conditions
29th September 2024Toyota’s Kalle Rovanpera has secured the win at the World Rally Championship’s Rally Chile Bio Bio, ahead of teammate Elfyn Evans.

Rovanpera has taken his fourth win of the 2024 season in the spine of South America, Chile, contenting with treacherous conditions as he rallied to victory.
On Saturday, the reigning world champion snatched away the rally lead from Evans on stage 11 in foggy conditions, where visibility was very difficult.
However, on Sunday morning, it was another challenging day as the fog plummeted onto the 14th stage, Bio Bio 1, of the weekend. Despite this, the Finn only lost out on the stage win by 0.2 seconds over teammate Sebastien Ogier.
This was followed up on the Wolf Power Stage as the two world champions battled for bragging rights. However, after a storming drive from Ogier, Rovanpera missed out on the stage win – and the subsequent five power stage points – by a tenth of a second.

Despite this, the Finnish world champion secured victory with over 23.4 seconds in hand over Evans who finished second, having led the rally in the first half of the weekend.
Hyundai’s Ott Tanak rounded out the podium in third, 43.9 seconds behind. More importantly, for the Estonian’s championship hopes, Tanak remained ahead of his championship rival and teammate, Thierry Neuville, who finished the event in fourth.
In turn, this event brings the gravel events to a close for the rest of the year with the upcoming Central Europe and Japanese rallies taking place on asphalt roads.
