Piastri has had a good start to his sophomore year in F1 as he claimed four of his six career podium finishes, in 2024, and a maiden victory at the Hungaroring during the Hungarian Grand Prix.

As such, combined with his team’s overall performance and that of his teammate, Lando Norris, McLaren has emerged as a true contender to chase after Red Bull Racing for the constructors title.

However, it looks as if it hasn’t been plain sailing for the Australian race winner as he put up a post on X, on Sunday, showing an image of a broken rib.

On the post, Piastri reflected the first half of the 2024 campaign, he said:

“First part of the season done. First GP victory. First broken bone. Ribs enjoying the break”

One of the four images consisted of an X-ray listed as ‘L 6th Rib Fracture’ with an arrow pointing to the affected area. The date of the image indicates he was checked out on the day after the British Grand Prix which was concluded on July 7.

However, it’s not the first time a McLaren driver has gotten injured this year as Lando Norris suffered a facial injury after partying in Amsterdam – ahead of this year’s Miami Grand Prix.

Following the post, it also attracted the eyes of an X Australian Grand Prix account which joked about the similarity between Piastri and, Dutch gymnast, Frank Rijken who is competing at the Olympic games.

In response, they said:

“It was because you were in the Olympics wasn’t it…?”
