Unlike usual race weekends, Saturday’s running was fairly wet, with the teams and drivers opting for the wets or intermediates in FP3 before moving solely onto the inters for qualifying.

This means the drivers, up and down the pit lane, will have a plethora of tyres available to suit their tyre strategy for the Belgian Grand Prix.

With a 44-lap race, over 7km of asphalt, it will put a lot of stress on the tyres as such Pirelli has stated the two-stop strategy will be the fastest option for the teams.

As the Belgian circuit of Spa-Francorchamps was resurfaced last month, it means the hard tyre is speculated to be a good race tyre compared to last year.

The soft tyre seems to be an unpreferred option unless the teams want to gain track position early on or at the end of the race – if a late safety car comes out.

The fastest way around the track, according to Pirelli’s ‘possible race strategies,’ would be to start on the mediums and two-stop for a fresh set of hard tyres each time.

However, this is dependent on the team’s remaining tyre allocation as both FP1 and FP2 were dry sessions meaning the teams did nibble into their allocation early on in the weekend.

Alternatively, the teams can go for a Medium-Hard-Medium or Medium-Hard-Soft strategy. Otherwise, the teams could go for the aggressive option of soft-medium-medium.
