McLaren lead the way in F1 Belgian GP FP2
26th July 2024McLaren led a 1-2 finish at second practice of the Belgian Grand Prix with Lando Norris leading his teammate in Spa-Francorchamps.

Following the typical Free Practice 1 session, where Red Bull’s Max Verstappen topped the session, it was a rather less-problematic session with teams and drivers fulfilling their practice programmes without issue.
Rain looked to threaten late on in the session but it was not enough to prevent the dry, slick tyres from being the preferred compound for the participants.
How did FP2 ended…
Norris found himself to be the fastest driver out on Belgium’s iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit with the fastest lap of the weekend, so far. Piastri and Verstappen provided the Briton with company, inside the top three respectively, with lap times which were two-tenths off the pace.
Ferrari had found pace in the break, compared to FP1, as Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth.
Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, who was putting in the laps he missed in FP1 with the water leak, managed to top seventh ahead of Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Sergio Perez (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) apiece.
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll dropped down the order slightly compared to his FP1 performance as he led the bottom 10 in 11th. He was accompanied by his double-world champion teammate, Fernando Alonso who finished 12th.
Valtteri Bottas (Kick Sauber), Daniel Ricciardo (RB) and Pierre Gasly (Alpine) completed the top 15, in 13, 14th and 15th respectively.
Haas’ outgoing driver, who will join Kick Sauber next season, Nico Hulkenberg completed his Friday down in the bottom 15 for the second consecutive session. Williams Racing’s Alexander Albon and Logan Sargeant rounded out the day down in 17th and 18th. The latter was just within two seconds of Norris’ best lap time whereas Albon was three-tenths faster.
Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu and RB’s Yuki Tsunoda completed the order down in 19th and 20th respectively.
