Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier has secured his sixth, record-breaking win at the Rally de Portugal, beating the two Hyundai’s.

Eight-time world champion Ogier secured an unprecedented sixth win at the Portuguese rally this weekend.

The Frenchman became the first-ever driver to secure six wins in the Iberian country, beating Markku Alen who had previously obtained five Portugal rally wins during their career.

The last time Ogier secured victory in Portugal was in 2017, following wins in; 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014.

“It’s been a great weekend, not fantastic for the whole team unfortunately but I did my best to bring maximum points for them,” said Ogier at the end of the Wolf Power Stage, speaking to the WRC. “It’s a good feeling.”

It wasn’t plain sailing for the French crew of Ogier and Vincent Landais as they cut through the Portuguese gravel to victory.

They lost their internal intercom on Friday, forcing Ogier’s co-driver to rely on hand signals to provide the pace notes.

However, he inherited the rally lead after his teammate – and reigning world champion – Kalle Rovanpera crashed out on Saturday.

Following Rovanpera’s retirement, and Katsuta’s issue with his rear suspension, the French crew had to fight to keep the hot Hyundais of Ott Tanak and Theirry Neuville behind.

At the Wolf Power Stage, held at the iconic Fafe test, Ogier only had to bring the car home in a relatively quick time having established a 10.1s gap over Tanak.

Even though Ogier lost time in the final stage, cutting the time down to 7.9s, it was not enough for the French crew to be knocked off the record-breaking win.
