Gasly will keep an ‘eye on the euros’ during Spanish GP weekend

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly has two sports on his mind as he heads to Spain for the Spanish Grand Prix; Formula 1 and the Euros.

Following two consecutive point-scoring weekends in Monaco and Canada, including a double-points finish in the latter race, Alpine will be hoping for similar results in Spain this weekend. 

However, Gasly has other sporting matters to contend with after both free practice sessions have been completed; the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship.

The ongoing tournament is fully underway with Germany, the competition hosts, kicking off the championship last Friday against Scotland – winning 5-1.

As a Frenchman, Gasly is backing his country in the football tournament, which resides in Group D for the group games. 

The two-time European Football Championship winners occupy the same group which includes the Netherlands, home to Dutch world champion Max Verstappen, Poland and Austria.

Gasly has joked, in the preview ahead of the Spanish GP, that he will be hoping to watch the France vs Netherlands game – after free practice – alongside Verstappen. 

“Away from the track, I will be keeping an eye on the Euros,” said Gasly. 

“This week after Practice, it’s a big one; France versus The Netherlands. Hopefully I can catch some of it with Max [Verstappen] and enjoy a big French win!”

As it currently stands, both France and the Netherlands have secured one win apiece in their respective group games in the tournament.
