FIA drop investigation as Toto Wolff and Mercedes enter an ‘active legal exchange’

The FIA have reportedly dropped their investigation into Susie Wolff and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff as the latter entered into an ‘active legal exchange.’

After reports from a media outlet, shortly after the chequered flag fell on the Formula One season, the FIA dropepd their investigation. The article raised concerns from ‘rival team principals’ that Toto and Susie Wolff’s relationship, as Husband and Wife mixed in with their respective positions in F1, had caused a conflict of interest inside the sport.

Both Mrs Wolff, Managing Director of F1 Academy, and Mercedes rejected the allegations as the former described the accusations were ‘rooted in intimidatory and misogynistic behaviour.’

The remaining nine F1 teams all stood by creating a united front supporting the F1 Academy driver on Wednesday. A day later, the FIA dropped the investigation.

However, the Managing Director of the F1 Academy was not happy with the statement released by the FIA, she said:

“When I saw the statement issued by the FIA yesterday evening, my first reaction was: ‘Is that it?’

“For two days, insinuations have been made about my integrity in public and through background briefings, but nobody from the FIA has spoken to me directly.

“I might have been collateral damage in an unsuccessful attack on somebody else or the target of a failed attempt to discredit me personally, but I have worked too hard to have my reputation called into question by an unfounded press release.”

Despite this, The F1 Academy head was pleased by the show of support provided. Wolff Continued:

“We have come a long way as a sport. I was extremely thankful for the unified support of the Formula One team. I have worked with so many passionate women and men at F1 and the FIA, who have the very best interests of our sport at heart.

“However, this episode has so far taken place without transparency or accountability. I have received online abuse about my work and my family. I will not allow myself to be intimidated and intend to follow up until I have found out who has instigated this campaign and misled the media.

“What happened this week is simply not good enough. As a sport, we must demand, and we deserve, better.”

Shortly after Mrs Wolff posted her statement, her Husband and Mercedes-AMG F1 Team Principal and CEO, provided his statement.

Within the statement the team and Wolff would not be ‘commenting officially for now,’ and that they have entered ‘an active legal exchange with the FIA.’ Wolff, on a post via the team’s official X account, said:

“We understand that there is significant media interest in the events of this week.

“We are currently in active legal exchange with the FIA.

“We await full transparency about what occurred and why, and have expressly reserved all legal rights.

“Therefore we ask for your understanding that we will not be commenting officially for now, but we will certainly address the matter in due course.”

The whole saga did not go down well with the sport itself as F1 was reportedly unhappy with the allegations pointed to Mrs Wolff, who reports directly to the sports President and CEO Stefano Domenicali.

Another problematic factor of the situation is that it is adding additional strain to F1’s and the FIA’s already strained relationship under its current administration.

That’s all for the article; FIA drop investigation as Toto Wolff and Mercedes enter an ‘active legal exchange!’
