Verstappen gets special helmet to celebrate third title win
8th October 2023Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has been gifted a special helmet to celebrate his third world championship victory at the Qatar Grand Prix.
The newly re-crowned world champion, Verstappen, was presented with a special black-and-gold helmet amid the celebrations in Qatar as the Dutch driver celebrated his third consecutive championship win.
As the sport headed into the Middle East for Qatar GP, Verstappen only needed three points to secure his third title on the bounce – a feat he could achieve in the Sprint Race.
This was made a certainty when his teammate Sergio Perez crashed out of the race in a tangle with Esteban Ocon and Nico Hulkenberg, after 12 laps.
When the world champion received the special helmet, decorated in black and gold with three stars on the back symbolising his three world championships, he showed it off to the team and media standing by.
Red Bull had brief celebrations down inside the pit lane, just outside their respective garage, before they were ushered out of the pit lane to commemorate their championship glory in their traditional fashion: spraying Red Bull.
This was to avoid tampering with the pit lane for the rest of the weekend, which would contravene the regulations.
Verstappen now joins a prestigious group of F1 royalty who have obtained three world titles consecutively; Michael Schumacher, Sir Lewis Hamilton, Juan Manuel Fangio and Sebastian Vettel.
In addition, the Dutchman is amongst a list of some of the greatest F1 drivers of all time who have three titles to their names; Niki Lauda, Jack Brabham, Ayrton Senna, Sir Jackie Stewart and Nelson Piquet.
