Red Bull Racing crowned 2023 F1 Constructors World Champions
24th September 2023Red Bull Racing are the 2023 Formula 1 constructor world champions as Max Verstappen’s victory at the Japanese Grand Prix gets the title over the line for the Milton Keynes team.
Inevitable. From the early races, and Red Bull’s early dominance, it was inevitable that Red Bull would secure championship glory. Aided by Verstappen’s 48th career victory in Japan, for the Japanese Grand Prix, the team have secured their sixth world title.
Red Bull have now secured back-to-back titles to back up their 2022 success, showcasing their superiority in the sport’s latest ground-affect era. The title will now be added to the team’s other titles which were secured in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Speaking after the race, Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner said:
“It’s been the most amazing race for us, the most amazing year and it’s a testament to these guys and the the guys and girls back in Milton Keynes.
“It’s very fitting to win this championship here, in front of Honda.”
It has been a dominating season for the Milton Keynes outfit, and one where records have been broken and look set to continue to be broken.
The reigning world constructors champions broke the record for the most consecutive race victories by a single constructor spanning from Abu Dhabi 2022 to Italy 2023. Previously, the record was held by McLaren and was untouched for 35 years.
At the same time, Verstappen broke the record for the most consecutive race victories in a single season with 10 off the bounce from Miami to Italy, in 2023.
The Dutch driver is also set to beat his record for most victories in a single season with 15 across the season, which he previously set last year. Six races remain of the 2023 campaign and the charging Dutch lion will likely match and improve that statistic.
In the end, with the title now mathematically out of reach it means eyes turn to the fight for second in the constructors championship. At the moment, the advantage lies at Mercedes’s feet who occupy the position on 305 points, 20 points ahead of the Italian team.
With a handful of races left to go and a couple of sprint races thrown into the mix, there are plenty of opportunities for one or the other to obtain the runner-up spot.
Next up is the Qatar Grand Prix, at the Losail International Circuit, from October 6 to October 8.
