Gresini Racing is set to retain Alex Marquez for the upcoming 2024 season as the Silverstone sprint race winner has extended his contract for another season.

The Spanish driver is set to embark on his fourth season in the top-tier of the MotoGP pyramid and will remain on a rider with Gresini after the two came to an agreement. As such, Marquez will continue with the Faenza-based team throughout the 2024 season.

This news comes just after days Marquez secured his first ever win in Silverstone when he won the sprint race. Despite this victory, the Spanish rider joined his six-time MotoGP champion brother, Marc Marquez, with a DNF in the full race.

Marquez’s sprint win will stand as the Spanish rider’s first taste of glory since he joined the premier class, following his Moto2 days back in 2019.

On the announcement, Marquez said:

“I’m very happy to continue with the team. I’ve always expressed this desire of mine and when things go the right way it’s even easier to understand each other.

“To continue together for the next season is key in order to keep growing with this bike, and with this team everything is going to be easier.

“I would like to thank Nadia first and foremost, and then the whole team who made me feel at home from day one. We’ll keep growing and surprising.”

Grenisi’s Marquez joined the top-class of MotoGP in 2020 when he joined the Repsol Honda team, in 2020, where he scored two podiums in his debut winless-season.

However, he quickly moved over to LCR Honda Castrol for the following 2021 and 2022 seasons where he failed to score a win or podium in those two seasons.

Following on, into this season, Marquez has now obtained a race win (albeit a sprint) and secured two podium finishes with 10 more rounds to go before the end of the season.

Nadia Gresini, Gresini Racing’s team owner, praised the announcement. She said:

“The results speak for themselves and it was a logical step for us to continue together and raise the bar some more. He already scored a race win and a pole position in his debut year with Ducati, showing he could battle with the best from the get-go.

“We will now try to find some continuity together in the next season.”

That’s it for the article; Alex Marquez to stay with Gresini Racing in 2024!
