WRC reveal 2023 calendar; returning venues and a new innovation

27th November 2022 0 By Kamron Kent

Earlier this week, the World Rally Championship has revealed their 2023 world championship calendar with their usual curtain raiser setting the scene in Monte-Carlo in January 2023.

The WRC has finally revealed their 2023 calendar, on Friday, with 13 rounds to round out the upcoming global season.

Monte-Carlo will ignite the championship season as the usual curtain raiser on January 19. According to the itinerary, revealed earlier this year, the rally weekend will consist of 17 stage which span over 314.52km.

Sweden will quickly follow up the Monte-Carlo action as the second venue of the season, early in February.

Mexico and Chile are set to return to the schedule for the first time since they were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mexico will host the third round of the year, on March 16, between Sweden and Croatia Rally (April 20 – 23).

In a similar instance to the recently concluded 2022 calendar, Rally de Portugal (May 11 – 14), Rally Italia Sardegna (June 1 – 4), Safari Rally Keyna (June 22 – 25), Rally Estonia (July 20 – 23), Rally Finland (August 3 – 6) and Rally Greece (September 7 – 10) will line up the middle stint of the season.

Despite a primarily European leg, the WRC will return to Chile for the first time since its debut in 2019 for the 11th round of the year. However, it will soon return for Europe for its new innovation – and penultimate round.

The sport’s new innovation will feature a round that will run across three countries; Austria, the Czech Republic and Germany, as part of the Central Europe Rally (October 26 – 29)

Despite spanning across three European countries, the event will be based in the German city of Passau which lies on Austria’s Border. The city also stands roughly 50km away from the Czechia border.

The season will run for 11 months, from January to November, which will see the championship’s last act commence in Japan as it did this season – on November 16, 2023.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
