WRC Rally Estonia: Kalle Rovanpera remains top on Saturday

Toyota’s Kalle Rovanpera inched closer to his fifth rally win of the season after a superb performance on Saturday, in Estonia.

How Saturday unfolded…

Toyota’s Elfyn Evans looked to bounce back in the early stage of Saturday morning. The Welsh driver topped the first stage of the day and cut into Rovanpera’s lead by 0.6 seconds.

However, Evans’ Finnish teammate retaliated back in the following stage as Rovanpera took his fourth stage win of the weekend, on stage 11, 0.4 seconds faster than the Welshman.

The championship leader seemed untouchable for the remainder of the day as he picked up stage wins from SS11 to SS17 to edge out his rally lead. By the end of the morning, Rovanpera had established a healthy 19.1 second lead over, second-placed, Evans.

Only Evans and M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux were able to pip the Finn, on Saturday.

On the final stage of the day, Fourmaux beat Rovanpera by one-tenth of a second to secure his first stage win of the event.

Hyundai’s Ott Tanak remained in contention for a podium position, with more than a minute in-hand over his teammate, Thierry Neuville who was down in fourth place. However, the Estonian – on home soil – was separated by more than a minute, himself, to second-placed Evans.

By the end of the day, Evans still has it all to play for as the sport goes into Sunday. Only 29 seconds separate himself from the championship leader.

That’s all for the article: WRC Rally Estonia: Kalle Rovanpera remains top on Saturday!
