Haas F1 terminate Uralkali and Nikita Mazepin contracts
5th March 2022Haas F1 Team have terminated their contracts with Nikita Mazepin and their title sponsor, Uralkali, ahead of the 2022 season.
In the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Haas F1 have now terminated their Russian links to the team: Uralkali and Mazepin.
In a press release, the team said:
“Haas F1 Team has elected to terminate, with immediate effect, the title partnership of Uralkali, and the driver contract of Nikita Mazepin.
“As with the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict.”
This means Mick Schumacher, son of the legendary Michael Schumacher, will be partnered up with a different teammate this season.
Pietro Fittipaldi currently occupies the reserve and test driver role for the team, so it is possible the Brazilian could step up into a permanent seat in F1. On the other hand, Haas is a Ferrari customer team and it has been rumoured that Antonio Giovinazzi could make a return to the grid.
The, now, Formula E driver was out of a seat in 2022 when Alfa Romeo confirmed Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou would drive for the team.
However, it looks more likely Fittipaldi is set to move into the vacant seat.
