Russian military forces have invaded Ukraine in the early hours of this morning, now fans are calling for the Formula One Russian Grand Prix to be cancelled.

The F1 Russian Grand Prix is due to be underway on September 25, at the Sochi Autodrom. However, with the latest news of Russia’s invasion, that will be placed in jeopardy.

As part of the 23-race season, the Russian Grand Prix has been held at the Sochi Autodrom since it’s introduction in 2014. The track lies over 400km away from Crimea and 780km to the Ukrainian border.

Despite the ongoing trouble, Formula One are still selling tickets to go to the Russian Grand Prix.

However, according to Freelance F1 Journalist, Chris Medland – who is currently in Spain covering the first bout of F1 testing, Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel has said will not be going to the race.

This casts a similarity to the opening round of the 2020 season, when drivers went home rather than raced as the Coronavirus pandemic broke out.

It begs question: Will other drivers follow suit?

Despite this, fans have called for the F1 race to be cancelled:
