Moto3 2022 Qatar Grand Prix: Andrea Migno secures win in first of season
6th March 2022Snipers Team’s Andrea Migno secured the first Moto3 race of the season, in Qatar, after Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max’s Ayumu Sasaki plummeted down the order.
How the race unfolded…
The polesitter, Sasaki, got a great launch off the start to led into turn one, without any competition. CFMOTO Racing PrustelGP’s Carlos Tatay crashed out in the middle sector with Aspar Team’s Sergio Gracia, but the Spanish rider managed to get back into the race. However, Gracia was given a long lap penalty later on for irresponsible riding.
On lap three, Avintia Racing Team’s Matteo Bertelle was given a long lap penalty for a jump start, at the beginning of the race.
At the end of the fourth lap, Leopard Racing’s Tatsuki Suzuki made contact with Squadra Corse’s Lorenzo Fellon at the final corner. The Japanese driver was on the dirtier side of the racing line and his Honda bike lost grip and took out Fellon.
At turn 12, with nine laps to go, Red Bull KTM’s Jaume Masia slid across the run off after CIP Green Power’s Katio Toba left marginal room for the KTM rider. However, race control deemed that no further action was necessary.
With seven laps to go, Sasaki suffered trouble in the latter stages of the race. The Japanese driver lost control of his car but damaged his bike as he regained control. As a result, Sniper’s Andrea Migno managed to overtake the race leader with ease.
Despite Gracia’s best efforts, the Spaniard couldn’t overtake Migno down the main straight as both drivers crossed the finish line side-by-side.
