Lewis Hamilton returns: F1 champion beats Max Verstappen social media engagement in a day

Mercedes AMG-Petronas’ Sir Lewis Hamilton has broken his social media silence, since December 11, 2021,  as the seven-time Formula One world champion announces “I’m back!”

Hamilton was last seen on social media on December 11, 2021, when he posted his P2 start in the title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last season.

After he lost – in very controversial circumstances – and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured his maiden world championship, the Mercedes driver disappeared into the social media void.

After 56 days, Hamilton finally announced his returned to social media which gathered over 372.5k likes.

It is clear to see the seven-time champion’s presence on social media has been missed.

In 16 hours, Hamilton who has seven million followers on Twitter had already racked up over 300k in likes on his Twitter post.

Compared to Verstappen’s championship posts, all the way back in December 2021, its clear to see how much support Hamilton has behind him.

On December 12, 2021, F1 only managed to rack up 317.7k likes on their post: ‘MAX VERSTAPPEN. WORLD CHAMPION!!!’ While Red Bull only managed 58.7k likes on their tweet: ‘WORLD CHAMPION!!!! @Max33Verstappen.’

Verstappen may have the backing from the Dutch fans but the newly-crowned world champion could beat Hamilton’s likes on his social media posts.

The Dutch driver has 2.5 million followers on Twitter but could only manage to secure 265.9k likes on his ‘World Champion!!!!’ post.

However, the former #33 Red Bull – who set to be showcasing the #1 in 2022 – did beat Hamilton’s social media engagement on Instagram. When Verstappen posted about his championship win, he secured 3.1 million likes out of 7.8 million followers while Hamilton only managed two million likes out of 26.8 million followers.

But, Hamilton’s most recent Instagram post is still fairly new.
