The inaugural Singapore Grand Prix sprint got off with a wet start, after an early downpour struck ahead of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, with two formation laps behind the Safety Car. The race finally turned green with a standing start.

By lap six, a total of five cars retired as a result of accidents, incidents or engine problems, but the number climbed to a high of nine retirements – the most of any sprint race in F1 history.

Mercedes George Russell crashed out on the second lap, after touching the wet kerb at the end of the first lap, with the two McLaren’s colliding together on the final lap.

Carlos Sainz was the only driver to start from the pit lane for the sprint, with a change to his set up.

Hi, I'm Kamron. I created ApexMotorsports.co.uk in the dying embers of the 2021 Formula 1 world championship. It allowed me freedom to write whatever I wanted to write about which was all things motorsports, my passion. I have put a lot of effort in over the years to keep this website in its best shape and I've loved seeing the brand grow consistently, month-on-month, year-on-year. My ambition is to keep watching this brand grow into a primary outlet of news for all things motorsports whilst fueling my desire to pursue a career in sports journalism, specialising in motorsports.
