Solberg has endured a troublesome season so far after a promising start, crashing out at several WRC events, most recently at Rally Japan.

In the most recent event, the young Swede crashed out on SS10 when he tackled a left-hander too quickly, having dipped the car into a deep cut, which slipped him off the road and into the forest.

Following the incident, teammate and defending world champion Sebastien Ogier claimed it was ‘not a surprise,’ as the Swede was taking too great a risk.

Despite having a dramatic first half to the season, shared with a successful win in the season opener, he is looking to put the past behind him and focus on the upcoming gravel events. He said:

“We’ve had some tough results on asphalt recently, but I’m looking forward to putting that behind me and focusing on gravel for the rest of the season, with an exciting mix of rallies coming up.

“We had a good result in Portugal, finishing second, and hopefully we can build on that in Greece.”

Despite his incident-filled season so far, Solberg still sits third overall in the drivers’ championship on 102 points, 49 points adrift of his championship-leading teammate, Elfyn Evans (151 points).

As such, he will enjoy a more favourable position in Greece as he will follow teammates Evans and Takamoto Katsuta out onto the stages. This later position will allow him to enjoy better conditions as his teammates sweep the road ahead of him.

However, he is still aware that the Greek event is still a demanding rally. He expects he will have to do some adapting to his Rally1 machinery, despite winning the rally last time out in his championship-winning Rally2 season last year.

“The Acropolis is a very demanding rally; it’s usually very hot and very rough,” Solberg continued.

“It’s another rally we won last year in the Rally2 car, but I’ve never driven it with a Rally1 car before. So there will be some adapting to do once again, but I will be giving it my best shot like always.”
