Perez penalty costs Cadillac first F1 point at Monaco GP
7th June 2026Sergio Perez has been handed a post-race penalty at the Monaco Grand Prix, which has cost Cadillac F1 Team their first-ever point-scoring finish in a race.

Following the conclusion of a dramatic Monaco Grand Prix, Cadillac finished their first time in the principality in 10th place, thanks to the driving of Sergio Perez, which awarded the team their first-ever point in Formula 1.
However, a post-race investigation has now stripped away their single point after it was found that Perez had been outside his grid box on the second start of the race.
The officials had confirmed that video evidence had shown the front-right wheel of Perez’s car was outside his starting box. In the Stewards’ report, they said:
“The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 11 (Sergio Perez), team representative and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video and in-car video evidence.
“Video evidence showed clearly that the front right wheel of Car 11 was outside the starting box. The standard penalty is applied.”

This came after the session was red-flagged due to the Monaco circuit’s asphalt being damaged with the cars running over the track, which had resulted in Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashing into the barrier at the final corner.
As a result of the infringement, it means that Perez now drops to 15th and last overall, and it will promote Fernando Alonso into the final point-scoring position, giving Aston Martin their first point of the year.
In addition, the false start offence was the second out-of-position penalty from the Mexican driver throughout the Monaco GP.
Perez was found out of position at the official race start and was given a more severe punishment for that incident, a drive-through penalty. This was because he had started the race in P16 rather than P18, after Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto was forced to start from the pit lane.
